Carbon management Index under different land uses of Conoor region of Western ghats in Tamil Nadu

چکیده
The increased land-use change (LUC) from native lands to other land use at the Conoor region of western ghats in Tamil Nadu has severely declined soil carbon concentration. Therefore quantify this decline, Carbon Management Index (CMI) was worked out under major uses {(Forest (FOR), cropland (CRP), tea plantation (TEA)} using total organic (TOC) and pools varying degrees lability {a) NLC (non-labile carbon) b) VLC (very labile c) LC (labile d) LLC (less carbon)}. Results portray that were significantly (p < 0.05) higher FOR than TEA CRP. contribution active {(very (VLC) (LC)} towards TOC CRP, whereas FOR, passive pool {(less (LLC) non-labile (NLC)} higher. (0-45 cm) concentrated on surface soils (32.88 g kg-1), CRP (11.87 kg-1) (18.84 it gradually with increase depth. decline maximum between 0 – 15 30 cm depth (30.62%) (22.17%), (37.16%) -30 -45 TEA. Therefore, LUC spotlights degradation its extent quantified management index (CMI). CMI (0 45 recorded (12.93) (32.62) signals need for an implementation strategies keep alive protect biodiversity.

Survey of the anopheline fauna of the Western Ghats in Tamil, Nadu, India.
The foothills of the Western Ghats were once hyperendemic for malaria. These hill ranges have an extremely rich flora and fauna. The earliest surveys of anophelines were carried out in the early decades of this century, and culminated in the publication of a monograph on the Indian anophelines by Christophers in 1933. Subsequently, studies were carried out by Covell and Harbhagwan (1939) and Ve...

Anthropogenic Biomes describe globally significant ecological patterns within the terrestrial biosphere caused by sustained direct human interaction with ecosystem, including agriculture, urbanization, forestry and other land uses. The present study focused on the invertebrate diversity in Marudhamalai Hills which is highly disturbed by human activities. Different techniques to identify the dis...
متن کاملPhytochemicals of selected plant species of the Apocynaceae and Asclepiadaceae from Western Ghats, Tamil Nadu, India
A concern about the declining supply of petroleum products has led to a renewed interest in evaluating plant species as potential alternate sources of energy. Five species of the Apocynaceae and three species of the Asclepiadaceae from the Western Ghats were evaluated as alternative sources of energy, oil, polyphenol, and phytochemicals. The highest protein content was observed in Caralluma att...

متن کاملThe Effect of Different Land Uses on New Indices of Soil Quality in Central Alborz Region
Different land uses have various effects on the changes of soil properties. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of natural forest, needle-leaved plantation and rangelands of central Alborz on new indices of soil quality (i.e. organic matter stratification, carbon management index and soil biological activities). For this purpose, eight samples from organic layer (litter) and m...
